Together we will explore how technology can support independence for aging individuals. Recent research highlights a decreasing technology adoption gap between older and younger adults. With advancements in assistive technology (AT) and smart home innovations, there are promising opportunities to improve the overall well-being of older adults. This presentation provides an overview of the applications and transformative potential of smart home technology. It discusses how these technologies can create supportive environments that adapt to the changing needs of older adults as they increasingly incorporate daily technology into their lives.

Objective 1: Attendees will describe a simple setup for smart home technology, including at least three smart components for use by aging individuals to maintain independence or improve quality of life.

Objective 2: Attendees will identify three possible sources of access or funding for smart technology needs.
